Flow cytometry has become increasingly complex in recent years. More lasers, more fluorochromes and more indications are a considerable challenge to laboratories performing flow cytometric diagnostics, resulting in more complex antibody panels and staining protocols. Traditionally, most assays in the flow cytometry lab are manual tests, mainly due to a lack of automated systems for sample preparation and staining in the past. This has changed recently due to the introduction of new technologies and automation in the industry. I will present current approaches to automation in flow cytometry with a special focus on the new Sysmex PS-10 system and discuss our initial results of the performance of the instrument in our flow lab.
